Caring for Your Dental Veneers

Posted .

Do you ever feel self-conscious about your smile? Ask our dentist about veneers. Dental veneers are thin shells made from a tooth-colored material. They are placed over the front of the teeth to improve their appearance. Veneers can be used to improve the appearance of a tooth that is discolored, misshapen, chipped, cracked, or slightly crooked.

How long will they last?
Your dental veneers should last from 10 to 15 years if you care for them as you should. If your veneers become worn or damaged, they may need to be repaired or replaced. Ensuring the long lifespan of your veneers is up to you.

How do I take care of my veneers?
First, practice proper dental hygiene. Brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss at least once daily. Visit our office at least twice a year for your routine dental cleanings and exams. If you play a sport, make sure to wear the proper mouth protection. In addition, never use your teeth as tools. Opening a package with your teeth, chewing on your nails, and crunching ice can easily chip a veneer. If you think that you may grind your teeth in your sleep, tell Dr. Bart Deering. Teeth grinding can weaken veneers.
