The Softball Behaviors to Avoid if You Want a Healthy Smile

Posted .

Our dentist, Dr. Bart Deering, wants you to have a strong and healthy smile. If you are a softball player, there are things involved in the sport that can negatively affect your oral health. If you’re not careful, your teeth and gums can suffer the consequences. Our dentist encourages you to avoid those behaviors as much as possible so you can have the top-notch smile and oral health you deserve. Those behaviors are the following:

-Drinking sports drinks: Sports drinks can affect the smile because they are loaded with sugar, and sugar promotes cavities. Instead of drinking sports drinks, drink water. Water is the best beverage for the teeth and gums.

-Using tobacco: Tobacco is a major enemy of the smile. It can cause cavities, bad breath, gum disease, oral cancer and other dental and health problems. Please avoid using tobacco altogether.

-Chewing tooth-harming products: Sugary gum can harm the smile because it can promote the development of tooth decay. Sunflower seeds can also harm the smile because the pressure involved in cracking the shells can fracture the tooth enamel. It’s best to chew sugar-free gum and shell-less seeds instead.
